Resilience

Project Type:

Poster Triptych

Tool Used:

Photoshop, Illustrator

My poster triptych focuses on the emotional and physical resilience of individuals affected by cancer. Each poster represents a distinct phase of the cancer journey: diagnosis, treatment, and survival. Through this series, I aim to visually capture the challenges, strength, and hope experienced at each stage, creating a narrative that honors the resilience of those who have faced this battle.

Font

For the typography, I selected Georgia for the main heading because its clean, modern lines and versatility command attention without overwhelming the design. This makes it ideal for emphasizing key messages across each phase of the cancer journey, aligning with the serious yet hopeful tone of the project. For the body text, I chose Brandon Grotesque due to its approachable, humanistic qualities, while maintaining clarity in conveying detailed information.

Iterations

The first iteration of the triptych faced issues with cohesiveness, making it hard to visually connect the stages of diagnosis, treatment, and survival. The imagery and text might not have conveyed enough emotional impact, limiting viewer engagement.

In my last iteration before the final design, I realized that to effectively convey emotion and empathy, I need to focus more on the faces of the people depicted in the triptych. While the previous version captured the overall concept well, it didn’t quite connect on an emotional level. By emphasizing close-up facial expressions, I can create a stronger sense of empathy and allow viewers to feel the weight of each phase more personally. This shift will make the narrative more impactful and ensure that each poster resonates deeply with the audience.

Final Design

In the last iteration, I focused on addressing the issues from earlier versions by refining the layout for better cohesiveness, using consistent visual elements to connect each phase. I added bold imagery, close-up facial expressions, and carefully chosen colors to enhance emotional impact, making it easier for viewers to engage with the narrative. The color scheme now better reflects resilience, with more contrast to distinguish each stage while maintaining unity. Additionally, I selected bolder typography to ensure clarity and reinforce the overall message, creating a cohesive yet powerful narrative that honors the strength of those who endure the cancer journey.

Despair

Symbolizes the emotional burden of a cancer diagnosis. The image shows a woman in deep thought, reflecting the uncertainty and fear that often come with the initial stage. The phrase, "Resilience Lifts Us From Despair," conveys how strength begins to emerge even in the face of such overwhelming news.

Hope

Illustrates the importance of support during treatment. The embrace between the two individuals symbolizes the strength drawn from a supportive community, while the text, "Resilience Guides Us Through Hope," emphasizes the role of connection and hope in navigating the challenges of treatment.

Accomplishment

Symbolizes the triumph of survival. The woman’s confident gaze reflects the strength and resilience developed through the cancer journey. The phrase, "Resilience Leads to Accomplishment," celebrates the victory over adversity, highlighting that every milestone brings individuals closer to healing and survival.
